Shopping, Restaurants and Nightlife in Alicante City
Eating Out
Alicante has numerous places to eat, whether you want a snack, a 3-course meal or to sample the wonderful tapas of the region.
If you're visiting during the day - then look out for the many 'menu del dia' signs outside the eateries. This is the Spanish version of our 'daily specials'. Usually a selection of a 2 or
3-course meal, often with drinks, that are a special low price.
In the Marina you'll find plenty of choice, from fish restaurants to fast food places, however in the heat of the summer it can be a little warm to eat there!
Our tip would be to walk around the plazas where you will often find cafes and bars in shady spots, or visit the Panoramis Centre at the end of the Marina - this is a great place to dine and shop and there's plenty for the kids to do.
In the evening there's a wide range of restaurants and tapas bars to choose from; sophisticated dining for special occasions (try around the back of the Cathedral), Mexican, Chinese or Thai for those exotic flavours or why not wander the narrow streets sampling tapas as you go! A good place to start is in the square behind the Town Hall; at an average price of €4 you can take your time and indulge your taste buds with the local gastronomic delights!
Nightlife
The bars and clubs tend to be concentrated on either side of La Rambla. On the left (with your back to the sea) are the newer and more sophisticated places, in the area known
locally as La Zona. To the right, clustered around the Cathedral, is the lively and more characterful Barrio. A maze of narrow streets packed with bars, jazz
clubs and restaurants.
Even in the winter months, its 'de rigeur' to sit outside under heaters and watch the world stroll by! Whilst summer brings its own buzz, when American tourists mingle with locals and the popular
jazz festival is held.
Shop 'til you Drop
Benidorm has a good range of shops, however if you want something a little bit special or fancy taking a look in the big department stores - head for the city!
There you'll find a whole street almost dedicated to shoe shops, fabulous jewellers whose window displays will capture more than your imagination and small friendly boutique where you can let your
fingers do the walking amongst racks of beautiful clothes.
Along the Esplanada you'll find craft stalls selling a variety of items from around the globe and often you'll turn a corner and come across a street market with all
the hustle and bustle you'd expect
If you're a bride to be - then how about a wedding dress with a difference? There's a number of designer shops dedicated to dressing both the bride and groom, plus mothers too.
And the men aren't left out, El Corte Ingles has floors of electrical items, CD's and DVD's - usually cheaper than the UK, plus plenty of menswear shops that could be just right for plugging that gap in your holiday wardrobe!
Add to all this places where you can rest your weary feet and have a cooling drink or even a snack, and it all adds up to a great day out!
