What a Boar
spotted something large swimming in the water
We're all familiar with fishermen's boring tales of the ones that got, or didn't get, away. Well, here's a story of two Benidorm fishermen that will keep them in free beers and ham sandwiches for a long time to come.
The two were aboard their boat about 8 miles off the coast of Benidorm when they spotted something large swimming in the water, their first thoughts were that it was some large fish or marine animal. As they got closer they thought that maybe it was a dog - imagine their surprise when they discover that it was a Jabali, a wild boar.
The poor animal was obviously lost, disoriented, and though extremely tired, took exception to being dragged on board, leaving no alternative but to put the animal out of its misery.
Quite how the beast ended up in the sea is a mystery, but it's thought that it may have fallen in at Calpe, just up the coast, where several of these animals have been spotted recently. The fishermen gave the Jabali to a local butcher, as when the meat of the Jabali is cured, it makes the finest ham in Spain.
