A Bridge Too Far
Published on 3rd October, 2004
If you're driving a high bus always take careful note of traffic signals advising the imminent arrival of a low bridge. That's just what a bus driver from Córdoba didn't do last week and became firmly wedged under the bridge of the Avenida Emilio Ortuño in the centre of town.
Traffic jams soon built up because of the obstruction and municipal workers were quickly on the scene in an attempt to free the bus. First they let down the tyres to reduce its height, and it wouldn't budge, next they filled the hitherto empty bus with passengers, and still it wouldn't move, so in the end they cut the roof off!
The police are of the opinion that the two signs warning drivers of the height restriction are not enough and are calling for better methods of communicating this menace to hard of understanding juggernaut drivers so it won't happen again.
