Brain Drain
Published on 20th March, 2004
The opening of the new private hospital in Rincón de Loix just past Levante beach will certainly have an affect on health care in the Benidorm area for it has provoked a flood of resignations from the National Health hospital in Vila Joiosa.
Specialists in surgery, cardiology and anaesthetists (though sadly for our headline, no brain surgeons) are falling over themselves for the better pay and working conditions offered by the private hospital funded by rich patients and insurance companies.
Obviously the unions in the public sector are worried by the loss of some of the top specialist whilst management at the private hospital continue to make lucrative offers to medical staff from Alicante to Valencia in order to get the best possible team.
