each uniform cost €1,200
The Mayor of Benidorm is under fire from the socialist opposition party (it's their job after all) because our local bobbies on the beat are just too sartorially elegant.
It's not the fact that we have the smartest coppers for miles in Benidorm that worries the lefties, it's the amount of money that's being spent on the new uniforms for the boys in blue.
Coming in at a hefty €361,000, the budget when allocated over the 280 members of the local constabulary means that each uniform cost €1,200 - about the same as an Armani suit or a pair of child's trainers - which the socialists consider too much.
In addition, police vehicles will be kitted out with new signage at a cost of €650 each so that everybody will know when the fashion police are on their way!
