El Gordo goes to Benidorm

Just before Christmas every year Spain’s national lottery has an enormous draw known as El Gordo (the fat one) for a massive prize which can make millionaires out of lots and lots of people.

Nearly everybody in the country has a flutter and this year over €40 million in prize money winged its way to Benidorm, where, luckiest of all were the employees of the company that has the sunbed concession on the town’s beaches.

The cheery chappies who wish you all a good morning as you settle down for a day’s sunbathing on the beach now have an extra spring in their step as dozens of them shared a prize so big that they all got €200,000! Not a bad day’s work eh?
