The hotel owners' association in Benidorm has called for improvements to El Altet airport near Alicante and more particularly its transport infrastructure.
They say that the face of tourism is changing now in Benidorm but airport transport systems are not keeping pace. More and more quality hotels are being built or upgraded which are attracting more independent travellers who are less reliant on organised package tours.
At the same time the many budget airlines flying into El Altet are disgorging passengers who find it difficult to get into Benidorm, especially on Saturdays, the busiest day of the week.
The hotel owners would like to see frequent, direct, rapid and economical public transport links by both road and rail into town so that independent travellers can arrive here more cheaply and quickly after their air journey.
