Pirate Taxi Broadside
Published on 11th April, 2004
'pirates' have no license to operate and no insurance to transport fare-paying passengers
The hotels and taxi drivers of Benidorm have delivered a broadside to the pirate taxis which operate on the streets of the town by signing an accord to eradicate them. The so-called 'pirates' have no license to operate and no insurance to transport fare-paying passengers and they are not subject to the strict controls and standards of licensed cabs.
From now on, any hotel calling a cab on behalf of a client will automatically have the nearest of the town's 225 taxis directed to it, and the driver will adhere to norms of dress, customer service and cleanliness of the vehicle. Apart from this all the hotels will have full information about the rates for taxi journeys so it will be a much better service for travellers.
