Rainy Benidorm
We don’t have wet weather that often in Benidorm so when we do have some, and we had lots last week, it’s worth writing about.
Obviously the main effect of the bad weather is that not so many people come here and hotels and businesses suffer. Some hotels actually reported a 50% decrease in trade during the important holiday weekend which unfortunately coincided with some torrential downpours.
On the upside, water is an important commodity here and happily supplies have been restored to almost normal levels. The dam at Guadalest received so much water in a short space of time that it now has a level of 65% of its total capacity as opposed to 51% before last week. The river Algar which has recently been in a deplorable state due to the lack of water and being clogged with the invasive Jacinta weed, is now flowing freely in a manner unseen since 2001.
OK, we know not everybody likes their holidays spoiled by bad weather but sometimes we need the rain here too.
