The Hole in the Wall Gang

Published on 4th February, 2004

the raid...... which seems to have been inspired by the plot of a film.

Two masked men armed with a pistol robbed €36,500 from a branch of the Banco Santander Central Hispano de Benidorm last Monday. It appears that the men had gained entry into the bank by knocking a hole in the wall from an adjoining building which was having construction work carried out on it.

As it was the weekend, there was not a soul about, so the men were able to work undisturbed in readiness for Monday morning. When the staff of the bank arrived for work they were taken by surprise by the two robbers who then made off in a luxury car with the loot.

Thankfully nobody was injured in the raid which seems to have been inspired by the plot of a film. We have calculated that on the average building site, a couple of tradesmen, say plasterers, working overtime for the entire weekend would have actually earned only about €25,000 - so it seems that crime does pay, unless of course they get caught. (The robbers, not the plasterers.)
