Culture vultures in Benidorm will be delighted to hear that construction the planned Palace of Culture on the Avenida Europa will commence in the first quarter of this year. The Council already has €20 million to get the project off the ground and it is believed that negotiations are well under way to obtain the rest of the finance necessary to finish the job.
The futuristic building was originally designed seven years ago by the architect Juan Navarro Baldeweg and won the competition for the best design from 93 competitors. The project will feature different rooms with capacities of 1200 and 450 persons for musical and theatrical activities and there will also be patios for outdoor performances.
We look forward to seeing the first performance there - it can only be good for the image of Benidorm.
