High Tech Nuns of Altea
Published on 9th January, 2005
Probably the last place you'd expect to find a thriving web page design business is in a convent but this is exactly what is happening in Altea. The sisters who belong to the order of the Barefoot Carmelites who used to earn funds for the convent by sewing and baking cakes now have a much more high tech way of raising money.
Under the guidance of Sister Virtudes Parra who was a computer programmer before she joined the order, the nuns produced their own web page for the convent. This was so good that they were asked to design a page for all the other Carmelite convents in Spain which has received over 110,000 hits.
Now the Sisters have been inundated with requests from businesses for their web page design skills and all the money raised is donated to the order.
