Benidorm Music Meeting 05
Published on 5th August, 2005
12,000 people packed the stands
Wow, what a weekend! Benidorm’s football stadium played host to some of the world’s top popsters for the 3 days of the town’s Music Meeting festival last weekend. With a line-up which included James Brown, Jamiroquai, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, US3, Echo & The Bunnymen and The Prodigy, there was something for nearly everyone.
Over 12,000 people packed the stands and ground on the final day of the festival to hear lovable scouse rascals Ian McCullogh and co. belt out their classic hits like ‘The Cutter’ and ‘Lips like Sugar’ as a prelude to the appearance of The Godfather of Soul.
The man himself appeared in a bright red suit and with a 17 strong team of tightly coordinated musicians, singers and dancers, and belied his 72 years with a high octane performance of classic soul, funk and rap. This was Mr. Brown’s only appearance in Spain this year, so a round of applause for Benidorm council for getting it here and can we have him back next year please?
