Arty Altea's Balcony Exhibition

The steep and narrow streets of Altea's old town section are home to many artists' workshops (as well as some very nice bars and restaurants!). In this arty theme there will, as usual, be a display of works of art from all over the country on the balconies of the whitewashed houses.
It's the 8th annual 'Les Balconades' exhibition when paintings are hung on public display on the cast iron railings of private balconies. This year there will be at least 70 balconies decorated with artworks, generally situated round the church, though the council are looking for more house owners to volunteer their balconies for use.
Unlike the past, the competition will be judged by the thousands of visitors who pass through this picturesque area during summer. Each will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite painting from 27th July until the exhibition ends on 31st August.
So if you're in the Costa Blanca between these dates put a red circle in your diary and don't forget to take some neck liniment!
