Benidorm Bank Holiday Success.
Published on 2nd May, 2006
Hotel occupancy averaged 98%
The Bank Holiday weekend just gone was a great success in Benidorm. Marking the official start of the high season, the 1st of May 'workers' day' is always a holiday in Spain and this year falling on a Monday it gave a great opportunity to have a long weekend.
Tens of thousands of Spanish people left the cities and headed for town to join the throngs of international visitors. Hotel occupancy averaged 98% - an absolutely incredible figure - and some hotels had to put up the 'no vacancies' signs.
With beautiful weather and temperatures around 25 degrees, and the skiing season just ended, it seems everybody wanted to head for the beach! Even better for Benidorm is the fact that today, 2nd May, is still a holiday in Madrid, so many people from the capital are prolonging their stay in Spain's favourite holiday resort.
The good figures in Benidorm seem to have had a ripple effect further down the coast where the hotels for the beaches of San Juan and Alicante have experienced up to 85% occupancy. Roll on summer!
