Benidorm Bay Watch

Published on 1st February, 2006

Supposing someone said you could spend all day on the beach at Benidorm? Just imagine 10 or 11 hours a day on your own special chair with no need to put your towel out at 7am every day to bags it. Just imagine spending the day watching nubile young ladies (or men – hey it’s the 21st Century) frolicking in the sea. And then suppose this same person said that they would pay you for this?

Would you rip their arm off, or would you spend a week agonising over the decision wondering how many holidays you got with the job?

Well, the lifesavers manning the beaches whose lot this is are not happy with it. They say that their wages are reguarly paid late, they don’t get as much as stated in their contracts, and that they have to work longer hours with no holidays.

In answer to this, the company which is contracted to Benidorm council to employ the Bay Watchers says none of their allegations are true.

The opposition Socialist party want the council, the company and the lifesavers to sit round a table to sort it all out. Us? We’d rather be on the beach!
