Benidorm Celtic

50 giant paellas a day

If ever any proof were needed that Benidorm is one of the greatest entertainment spots in Europe then we have it for you today. The annual get together of the Glasgow Celtic supporters club is just coming to an end in Benidorm. Over 30,000 football mad Scots deluged the town in a sea of green and white and, we're happy to say, without incident thus far.

Organisers had erected a special Celtic Village in the Foietes sports complex where fans could buy souvenirs and most importantly food and drink. However only 10% of the beer lake brought in for the event has been quaffed, and cooking staff who were on red alert to produce 50 giant paellas a day have only made two, and most of them went to feed the underemployed staff.

Meanwhile round Benidorm's tourist areas, the Levante beach promenade and the Calle Ibiza, bar staff have been working flat out from 10AM to 4AM serving foaming pints at €3 a pop to thousands of thirsty supporters.

One of the suppliers to the Celtic Village summed it up in a phrase, "Benidorm's expertise and entertainment offer is just so big, that's why we've failed."
