There's a real festive feeling in the Benidorm air at the moment. This weekend has seen the traditional annual Christmas Market situated in the Alameda de Pedro Zaragoza. Held to raise money for the coming year's Benidorm Festival week it was, as usual, a roaring success with quite literally thousands of shoppers turning out to browse and buy.
With over 20 stalls selling practically everything anyone could need for Christmas and lots of local edible specialities, people thronged the street all day. The biggest interest was centred on the animal section where there were donkeys, sheep, rabbits, pigeons and some not very happy turkeys. There was also an enormous barbecue with over a hundred kilos of meat sizzling away, and the Queens of the 2006 Festival were in attendance adding a touch of glamour to the proceedings.
Not far away from the market, the ice rink is finally up and running after a slight delay caused by the wet weather. Hundreds of people have already taken advantage – including the aforementioned Festival Queens - of this easy way to get their Christmas bumps! Remember, it's only €5 an hour (including skate hire) and is in town until 14th January.
