World Class Chess in Benidorm

Russian World champ Veselin Topolov

Benidorm's (and Europe's) tallest hotel is playing host to the Benidorm International Chess Festival for the 5th year on the bounce. The Gran Hotel Bali is the venue where 400 chesssers have gathered to compete in this brainy game of strategy.

They've come from all over the world - 40 countries are represented – and they'll each be hoping to win a slice of the €40,000 prize money. There are various prizes at stake covering different categories of player; junior, senior, veteran, aficionado and so on.

Perhaps the biggest attraction at the tournament is the presence of Russian World champ Veselin Topolov – you'll spot him easily, he looks just like The Master from Dr. Who – who will be playing exhibition matches against several other competitors, all at the same time!

If you're interested in chess get down to the Bali – it can be seen for miles - before Sunday.
