Villa Joyosa Festival Time

over 60,000 flowers
Early May is festival time in Villa Joyosa but as we're in Spain the celebrations are starting really early. (The only thing that does - Ed.) To mark the 353rd anniversary of the 'Tears of St. Marta' together with the town charter the council have organised a medieval fare to take place in the colourful, winding streets of the old town.
Running from 28th April to 1st May, which is a public holiday, the fare will include dozens of attractions; stalls selling articles from the 5th to 15th centuries and some genuine medieval style entertainment, fakirs, snake charmers, Moorish dancers and a spectacular trapeze act over 12 metres high!
On the 8th May, the actual day of the festival, over 4000 people will march through town accompanied by 800 musicians in dozens of bands and over 60,000 flowers. It's great fun and the smell of the fresh flowers is wonderful. If you're on the Costa Blanca, do try to get along there, it's well worth it.
