Holiday on Ice

12 below zero

Get yer skates on and slide on down to the new Benidorm Ice Rink! The Plaza de los Reyes de Espana is the home to Benidorm's newest winter diversion at 600 square metres and a cost of €46,000. Open until after the Three Kings celebrations in early January, the rink will be available to would be Torvill and Deans at a cost of only €3 to €5 which covers the cost of skate hire.

Around 240 people can skate at any one time on the rink which is kept at a constant temperature of 12 below zero to provide the ideal skating surface - over 5000 litres of chemical refrigerant have been used to freeze 50,000 litres of water to provide a depth of 8cms of ice.

The rink will be open from 10 am to 9 pm with a couple of hours break around midday for workers to shovel the 'snow' of ice scrapings made by skaters from the surface. It sounds like a great idea for Christmas fun in town – now all we need is Bing Crosby on his one horse open sleigh.
