balancing a ball and oinking

This week we highlight some flipper-flapping, tree-hugging news from Benidorm and surroundings. Down at the Mundomar animal park two female sea lions have just become proud mums. The little baby sea lion cubs can be seen in the special nursery area there. For now and the next few months the babies are feeding on mothers' milk and it will be some time before they have to earn their keep balancing a ball and oinking at the same time.

In Vila Joyosa a 16 metre high Araucaria tree has been successfully moved and replanted without harm. The tree, which weighed several tons, had got in the way of a new road scheme and rather than just chop it down the council decided to give it a new home in a nice garden area.

A team of transplant experts were called in from Elche, who without the aid of anaesthetic, but with the aid of a special 'uprooting' machine on a lorry and a tanker full of water, picked it up and moved it to its new home. It is now reported to be sprouting new shoots from its branches.

Isn't nature wonderful?
