Poniente Promenade on the Go

a cost of €13.3 million
Well it's finally happened! The dream that was the promenade alongside Benidorm's Poniente beach is now becoming a reality. The first stone of the works was ceremoniously laid yesterday in the presence of the Mayor of Benidorm and the President of the Generalitat de Valencia.
The project was originally announced in 2003 when an accord was signed between local, regional and central government to finance it. Delays inevitably happened when the Spanish Government didn't cough up the promised finance and it has taken until now to find the necessary funding.
So, at a cost of €13.3 million, work will start within the next fortnight and last roughly two years. The promenade, or Paseo Marítimo, will run from the Parque de Elche (where all the doves are) to the Avenida de la Armada Española, a length of 1.3 KM. It has been designed with a modernistic look recreating the feeling of a cliff and the movement of the sea swells and waves and by the sound of it has been well worth waiting for.
