Benidorm is now well and truly on the right track for a modern transport system of the future - today! The Government transport department have approved a budget of €19 million for the renovation and electrification of the existing railway line between Villajoyosa and Benidorm.

This will make it possible to run ultra modern super trams on this stretch of the Alicante to Denia line which is slowly but surely being converted into a modern tram system.

This 9km stretch will open up an easy transport route, fast, quiet, environmentally friendly and extremely convenient between Benidorm and Alicante by the end of this year. However it doesn't stop there as a spur line to the giant Terra Mitica theme park is planned as well as the extension of the tram-line to Altea.

The only pity about the whole scheme is that, as yet, there are no definite plans to link the very busy El Altet airport into the system.
