confiscate a total of 42,186 fireworks
The recently finished Benidorm Fiestas have been a great success as usual, the weather was excellent, the crowds were out in force, and a good time was had by all.
Here's a couple of quirky little facts about sights and sounds of the festival -
Over 40,000 light bulbs were used to illuminate the main streets of town for the festivities. We are still trying to think up a funny punchline to the eternal question 'How many hard working council employees does it take to change 40,000 light bulbs?'
On a noisier note the council had to confiscate a total of 42,186 fireworks which were on sale in a local food shop which was unlicensed to sell gunpowder. Other than a couple of isolated incidents of youthfully exuberant hooliganism the fiestas were a good natured affair and police received only 67 complaints about noise and had to give 21 tickings-off to establishments producing an excess of decibels.
All in all a good result for everybody concerned and we'll see you all again next November.
