Good and Bad Traffic News

56,000 cars and thousands of coaches
Last weekend saw traffic chaos on the roads approaching Benidorm and was it any wonder? The biggest summer bank holiday weekend in Spain had hundreds of thousands of people leaving home in their cars and all heading for the same place - Benidorm!
We often forget that it is one of the most popular national destinations for Spanish holidaymakers and approximately 56,000 cars and thousands of coaches jammed the roads trying to get here. Parking was at a premium and reports tell of 28 km tailbacks on the main routes into town.
The Socialist opposition party as usual are moaning about the situation, blaming the council for a lack of planning, though quite where they expected them to put all the extra cars we have no idea.
On the good news side it looks like the council will at last start to fine anyone parking a scooter on a 'blue zone' without paying. These pay to park zones are designed for short stays for cars and often are clogged with scooters parking for free. Even better, the council are also going to impose fines on scooters which take up valuable parking space on the road even though there are special scooter parks within metres.
