Archaeological Finds in Vila Joyosa
Published on 10th January, 2006
The rich and ancient history of the area has come to light on no less than three occasions in only the last three months in Vila Joyosa as archaeological remains have been unearthed.
In November the remains of a 1st century Roman city were discovered when, incredibly the remnants of a sophisticated hot air central heating system came to light.
In December the site of the Olimpia cinema yielded trenches used by the Roman legions, again from the 1st century.
And finally, only this week, the men with trowels and brushes have painstakingly unearthed bronze-age tools and ceramics which date back 3000 years!
The lucky find was made as the foundations for a new housing project were being dug and have confirmed belief that there was a sea-side agricultural settlement here long before the Romans arrived.
