tons of fireworks going up in smoke
Benidorm may well be in Spain, the land of manyana, manyana, but when it comes to having a fiesta we don't muck about! The massive celebrations for San Jose day and the beginning of spring, the
Fallas, are due to start in a couple of weeks and already the celebrations and preparations have started.
This weekend a couple of thousand people gathered in one of benidorm's main streets to give and official welcome to the Fallas in the presence of the two 'Queens' of the fiesta. The organisers have
promised that the town will be transformed in to a place of 'Art, light, colour, joy, and the smell of gunpowder.' If you don't already know, the Fallas are celebrated with tons of fireworks going up
in smoke and the burning of giant images in the streets on the main day of 19th March.
Looking even further into the future, the maids of honour for Benidorm's big November fiesta have already been chosen and presented to both the Mayor and the
town's patron Saint, the Virgen del Sufragio, in whose honour the festival is held. The queen of the fiesta will be picked from amongst these young ladies and crowned in yet another ceremony on 25th
March.
