Terra Mitica - Open Again

put the swash back in the buckle

Benidorm's big Terra Mitica theme park reopened for its eighth season last weekend. Thousands of visitors thronged the complex in what the management predict will be a foretaste of things to come by increasing numbers on the 1.1 million paying customers last year.
This year sees two new attractions added to the roster at a cost of €6 million and an old one making a welcome return. When the Pirate spectacular Red Beard was pulled from the list of shows after six fantastic seasons there were howls of protest from the public and the park was inundated with requests to put the swash back in the buckle by bringing Red Beard back. So now, by public demand, you can watch the show in the Iberia section of the park.
Fans of vertigo, velocity and white knuckle rides will be happy to hear that Europe's first 'ball coaster' is due to open in summer at Terra Mitica's Rome area. If travelling up and down a vertiginous track at high speed wasn't enough, the carriages actually gyrate an angle of more degrees than you'd really like! We wonder why they've called it 'Inferno?'
The Egypt zone will have a new 'gyro tower' of 100 metres high and with a rotating viewing platform which will give 360 degree views of the Benidorm skyline and mountainous backdrop.
So will we see you at Terra Mitica this year?
