Poniente Paseo and Parking

They've been talking about it for 20 years and now the remodelling of the road by Benidorm's famous Poniente beach is now underway. The new promenade (paseo in Spanish) will increase the amount of pedestrianised area by 300% but will obviously reduce the size of the road running its length.
Unfortunately this will mean a loss of some 300 parking spaces which are considered absolutely vital by the residents, shop, bar and restaurant owners in the area. This loss of parking is the one fly in the ointment for the neighbours in the Poniente area whose lives will be considerably improved by the massive reduction in traffic through the district.
Meanwhile, just across town the area underneath the Parque L'Aigüera is the subject of the plans of two different companies to construct underground parking facilities there. If either company is given the go ahead there could be up to 1200 new parking places and even a new plaza where big festivals would be held.
We wait with bated breath to see what happens.
