Benidorm: Green City

Benidorm is more environmentally friendly

Ever fancied a job as a university professor but been put off by the thought of all the braincells you'd expend doing it? No need to worry because a new study carried out by the University of Alicante demonstrates that only a modicum of common sense is required to state the blindingly obvious.

Professors there have found that Benidorm is more environmentally friendly than many other places because the way our hotels and apartments are built, we use less water than elsewhere! The average water usage of hundreds of people living in a high rise block is 361 litres per day per person, whilst house dwellers use 590 litres.

It's not because apartment dwellers dodge more soap than their housey counterparts, just that in a house you have gardens, a pool, and so on to take into account between just a few people. The study also showed that more water is used by luxurious hotels than basic two stars because they have proportionally bigger gardens, more pools, spas, etc, etc.

And if we hadn't got the idea by now, the THREE professors involved illustrate their findings with this example – Benidorm's water usage over an 8 year period increased by 17% whilst in Alfaz de Pi, which has lots of houses and smaller apartment blocks, it was 45%!
