The Lemon Express Returns

it will soon be back on the right track
It's almost 3 years since the Lemon Express last made its scenic journey around the Costa Blanca region. The elegant old train has been stuck in the sidings near Benidorm since May 2005, but with a bit of luck it will soon be back on the right track.
The train was run by a private company along tracks owned by FGV, Valencia's railway authority. The contract to run the Lemon Express expired as FGV started to upgrade the tracks to enable the new
super trams to run along them and the wagons of the express needed vital repairs and maintenance.
It won't be long now until the track improvements are complete and work is well under way to restore the carriages to their former glory. All 24 bogies on the train have been repaired and work is
starting on the interior and exterior carpentry at a budgeted cost of almost €1 million!
FGV expect the train to make its first journey at the end of 2008 or beginning of 2009 with the only possible change from years gone by being the point of departure shifting down the line from
Benidorm to Alfaz de Pi. From there it'll make its regular 40 km trip through differing and spectacular scenery and landscapes to the Gata de Gorgos.
That's something to look forward to.
