Popular Benidorm

the best period of the year so far
Benidorm is proving to be the most sought after destination in the annual programme of subsidised holidays for the pensioners of Spain. The Government acts as a gigantic travel agent to provide a cheap holiday for the country's senior citizens and this year 125,000 will be arriving in Benidorm.
And wouldn't you? At a cost of around €20 a day, which includes travel, full board, excursions and entertainment you'd be queuing at the travel agents as soon as you'd finished queuing at the
post office for your giro!
The pensioners will be staying in one of the 35 hotels that cater for them from 24th October to 10th May and, though the hotels don't make a fortune, in these days of economic downturn every Centimo helps.
Despite the harsh economic situation pretty well all over Europe, Benidorm's hotel occupancy still continues to be quite buoyant given the circumstances. At over 91% occupancy, the first fortnight of
September was the best period of the year so far, but still 3% less than in 2007. When other areas of Spain are turning in much worse figures, the hoteliers of Benidorm can count their blessings.
