Castles in the Benidorm Sand

This coming weekend sees the start of the summer holiday season in Spain and the police are expecting over 4 million journeys to be made on the country's roads.

As a warm up to the nation's time at the beach, Benidorm held its traditional sand castle building competition – in Madrid! Just for a day the famous Paseo de Coches in the Retiro Park becomes just like a beach in Benidorm thanks to 150 tons of its sand.

Around 200 competitors competed in rounds of about 30 people to construct the best sand castle and the winner from each round was awarded a weekend for two in Benidorm.
