The conversion of the old train lines and stations between Alicante and Denia to enable the new super trams to run along them continues at pace. News has leaked out that Benidorm will be on the new tram system before Easter.
At the moment travellers to Alicante have to
change from the old train to the tram at La Creueta station in Vila Joyosa. But from around the end of February or beginning of March (no firm date has been set) it'll be tram all the way. The
journey time will be less than an hour and the frequency will be doubled from a train every hour to a tram every 30 minutes.
The next phase of the modernisation will extend the tram system all the way to Altea by the end of 2008 or beginning of 2009, whichever is latest.
