Fishy Business in Altea

immobilised video cameras

A strange robbery took place just a few days ago off the coast of Altea. Around 150 tons of fish which have a value of €400,000 were stolen over two nights from a fish farm in the area.

The fish, Corvina (or shade fish in English – a bit like sea bass) were all between a half and two kilos in weight when they were taken by what must have been a medium sized vessel who's crew had immobilised video cameras watching the farm. The owners suspect that the robbers had inside knowledge of the farm to be able to carry out the manoeuvres needed to extract the fish in total darkness.

The size and 'scale' of this robbery will obviously have a devastating effect on the business and the owners are doing all that they can to find the fish – alerts have been sent to all restaurants and fish markets all the way along the Mediterranean coast as far as Catalonia and Murcia.

Meanwhile the farm installations have been put under 24 hour surveillance from sea and land and new radars and cameras installed to prevent further robberies.
