Altea: Medieval Market

'tradition, culture and gastronomy.'

Tomorrow sees the start of Altea's festivities in honour of its patron saint. The 'Fiestas del Santísimo Cristo de la Salud de Altea la Vella' have received a €30,000 subsidy from the town hall and will see the town's balconies bedecked in banners paying homage to Christ.

The traditional peeling of bells and firing of rockets will take palce at 19.30 on that day to herald the start of the celebrations which last until 9th February. New this year is a Medieval Market from Friday to Sunday this week (30th to 1st)which promises 'tradition, culture and gastronomy.'

Altea Old Town Street

The steep, narrow streets of Altea old town are the perfect backdrop for such a medieval fair and it's easy to imagine being transported back in time 7 or 800 years here.
