Benidorm Numbers

10,459,462 nights

Some interesting Benidorm byte-sized bits and bobs with a numerical theme.

The socialist party from the Basque country have opened an electoral office in Benidorm because around 8000 Basques are based in there. This is more than the population of many towns in the Basque country!

Benidorm is number 1 in the whole of Spain for tourist occupation figures in 2008. The town was visited by 1,664,210 people who spent 10,459,462 nights and gave the hotels 76.25% occupancy.

A major fire over the weekend, caused, aided and abetted by 130 kph winds wiped out 1100 hectares of forest in the hills which look over the town, left 20,000 people without electricity and caused around 15,000 people to be evacuated from their homes as a precaution. The fire has now been extinguished.
