Boating in Guadalest

The spectacularly picturesque area of Guadalest is one of the most famous and popular excursion for holiday makers in Benidorm. Now, however, as well as the castle clinging to the rock face and the pretty, old village the area has another attraction.

Tourists can take a trip by boat around the large reservoir at Guadalest. But it's no ordinary vessel, because it's one of the few in the area which is entirely solar powered.

Around 60 passengers can be transported on the 50 minute trip which covers about 6 kilometres and only costs €5! The views from the boat of the surrounding mountains, plateaux and castle are brilliant.

The company which built the boat reckon that it will have a life of about 25 years using the free energy form the sun, and that a normal boat would use 1.5 million litres of fuel in the same period!
