New Mayor for Benidorm

a family 'feud.'

As of yesterday Benidorm has a new Mayor. Out goes conservative Manuel Pérez Fenoll and in comes socialist Agustín Navarro. The change comes after a motion of censure presented by 12 socialist councillors and a conservative councillor against the former mayor was passed.

Benidorm's new mayor, Agustin Navarro

The recent politicking in Benidorm has hit the headlines all over Spain, not only because of issues over what the press call 'turncoats' who all resigned from their respective political parties, but also because of a family 'feud.' One of the councillors involved is the mother of a high ranking figure nationally in the socialist party – Leire Pajin.

It's also seen as a little ironic because 18 years ago in 1991, the conservatives came to power in Benidorm with the aid of a 'turncoat' from the socialists. You know what they say, what goes around, comes around!
