'Snakes on a Plane'

The number of lifeguards who are stationed on Benidorm's beaches during the winter is to be doubled from three to six. The high numbers of beach visitors are cited as justification for the increased numbers.

Film actress Elsa Pataky, best known to English speaking audiences for her role in 'Snakes on a Plane' has been filming scenes in Benidorm on her new project Di Di Hollywood with Bigas Luna. She was spotted wearing a sari for a scene shot with the elephants in Terra Natura this week.

The Benidorm Fiesta starts next week to celebrate the discovery of the 'Virgen del Sufragio' in 1740. The Costa Blanca authorities want this act to be recognised as a 'fiesta of 'autonomous tourist interest' by the Generalitat of Valencia as heritage boss Gema Amor says it's an example of how important religious and historic acts are in the province.
