Let There be Light

lights which illuminate the beaches and promenades at night

But not as much as before! Benidorm, like many other councils in Spain is trying to reduce its costs to save money. One of the methods it'll be using is to reduce the amount of public lighting and thus save on its electricity bills.

Along the coast in Alicante, they've set the ball rolling by reducing the brightness of their street light, but in Benidorm they're going to reduce the number of lights which illuminate the beaches and promenades at night.

By turning off half the big spotlights aimed at the beaches and foliage along the proms, the council aim to save €400,000 a year! They also want to use lots more solar panels to supply juice to public buildings like the town hall and sports centres as well as use many more low consumption light bulbs.

It sounds good for the economy as well as being ecologically correct.
