Energy Saving Hotels

Intelligent Energy for Tourism

An enormous amount of hotels in Benidorm were built in the 60's and 70's and before people were worried about the environment, oil crises and holes in the ozone layer.

These days times have changed and there's concern for the environment and making savings on energy bills. To this end the Benidorm hotels association, HOSBEC, has started a pilot programme called Enerintur (Intelligent Energy for Tourism) which aims to make savings and increase efficiency by using renewable energy.

With the support of the Alicante government and collaboration from the College of Architects the 300 room Hotel Palm Beach will be the 'guinea pig' for the experiment which will control the effects of the sun on its facade and thus radically reduce the bills for air-conditioning and heating.

If successful, these structural reforms can be rolled out across the rest of Benidorm's hotels over the next few years.
