Albir - Bowling, Tennis & Squash

Bowls

Let’s suppose you’ve had it with the beach and/or watersports and would like to do something really British. Well tucked away between Albir and Benidorm lies the Albir Bowls and Squash club. Bowls, or lawn green bowling, is very much alive in Spain, the Albir Bowls Club caters to 18 different clubs and has 125 active members of its own. The club features a green with 8 greens and boasts one of the largest clubhouses with bar in Spain.

On Monday, Wednesday and Friday the official dress-code (all whites) applies. On Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday - the so-called visitor days - casual dress is allowed.

Bowls is played in three-hour sessions from 10:30 until 14:00 and from 13:30 until 17:00. Costs are € 8,- per person and include bowls and shoes. You can just show up and pay per day. But if you’re passionate about the game, the club offers memberships for 3, 6, or 12 month periods. Costs for membership is € 145,- € 180,- € 250,- respectively.

Squash

Should you like to grind your teeth at a game of squash, you can do so at one of the club’s three excellent courts. The courts have glass backwalls and can accommodate spectators, should your game be worthwhile watching that is. Unfortunately there is no active squash-club at the moment. So should you come to play, you’d better bring a partner too. After all, driving the ball along the walls on your own is no fun. But once you’re there, you will find spacious changing rooms and of course showers.

Tennis / Paddle

Tennis can be played at different locations in Alfaz del Pi. You have “pistas privadas” owned by private tennis clubs, and there are “pistas publicas” owned by the town council. The private courts are not free of charge. However, there are many to choose from so you can play a match whenever you feel like it, as opposed to the public courts where you sometimes may have to wait. A popular game is “paddle”. It’s like tennis albeit with a different courtsize and smaller rackets. Luxury hotels and apartments often have their own facilities.

You can find a good selection of Apartments and Hotels in Albir in our Hotel Guide.
