How to put an RSS news feed on your site
What is RSS?
Wouldn't it be great if you could publish the latest news headlines from your favourite website on your own webpage - WITHOUT having to update it yourself?
This is exactly what an RSS news feed enables.
We (Benidorm Spotlight) publish all of our news stories in a special RSS format which you can publish on your own site. This means your visitors will always see the latest Benidorm headlines without you having to constantly change and update them.
Of course we are not the only site which does this. Go to http://news.yahoo.com/rss/ and you can see the entire list of Yahoo's news sections available in RSS (also known as XML) format which you can also publish on your site.
Many people download special Aggregators, programmes which automatically update their own desktop with the latest news stories from around the world. The Headline Viewer is one of the most popular. This enables you to see the latest Benidorm Spotlight news neadlines on your desktop every morning, without visiting our site.
How can I Publish an RSS feed on my Site?
In order to include Benidorm Spotlight's latest news headlines in your site, you need to add some code to your own website.
If you don't like programming and simply want to display our top news in your site then go to this excellent page (http://itde.vccs.edu/rss2js/build.php) and fill in the fields to automatically generate the html code for you to copy into your site where you want the news stories to appear. Voila! It's as easy as that!
If, however, you want complete control over how the stories appear (colour, size, font, etc), then you will have to delve into a bit of PHP programming. Not much! ...but a little:
There are several already-made code libraries to do this in a number of formats - please try the CARP library or the Magpie RSS library.
